NEW FUNDING TO TRAIN MEDIA PROFESSIONALS

ONE of the first projects in Wales to receive funding under the Objective 1 programme is the Cyfle full-time vocational training scheme to provide higher level and technological skills for new entrants into the film, television and new media industry.
Cyfle, the training company for the film and television industry in Wales, will provide specialist training for eight young people through practical experience on location with television companies through the training scheme. The majority will also achieve their Skillset industry professional qualification.
Sion Hughes, Chief Executive of Cyfle, said: “We are extremely pleased that one of the first projects to be supported under the Objective 1 programme is the Cyfle new entrant scheme, which has an excellent record in terms of trainees into employment and achieving their NVQs.”
One of the trainees who are benefiting from the Cyfle training scheme is Vikki Owen, from Tremadog, near Porthmadog. Owen is being trained as a Television Make-up Artist, and her training will include wig-making, ageing characters, period make-up, and special effects.
Owen said: “I’m really thrilled with the vocational training I’m receiving on the Cyfle full-time scheme. I’m earning while I’m training and at the end of the training scheme I shall succeed in gaining my Skillset NVQ professional qualification in Make-up and Hair which will help me considerably when looking for work.”
Following an introductory course into the industry and their demands, Owen has received practical training on location with television companies, including periods on S4C women’s rugby series ‘Amdani’, ‘A mind to Kill’ and ‘Iechyd Da’.
