BAFTA SCOTLAND REWARDS NEW TALENT
AT a ceremony in Glasgow’s state of the art auditorium, the Armadillo, 24 new talent award winners were awarded their prizes by many Scottish stars.
All of the 70 nominees were either very young or new to the screen work for which they had been nominated. The youngest of the nominees was eight-year-old Heather Keenan who was nominated for ‘Best Performance’ in the short film ‘Daddy’s Girl’.
The ceremony was dominated by awards for the debut film of Glasgow born May Miles Thomas, whose film, ‘One Life Stand’, won ‘Best Drama’ and the ‘Scottish Screen Award’ for outstanding achievement. Thomas also won awards for ‘Best Writer’ and ‘Best Director’. ‘Best Film Performance’ went to Maureen Carr for her leading role as Trise Clark in ‘One Life Stand’.
Scottish actress, Caroline Paterson, won the award for ‘Best Television Director’ for her first directing work on ‘Tinsel Town’.
The Glasgow Film Office Awards were presented by cinematographer Seamus McGarvey, to nine winners from the different technical disciplines involved in filmmaking.
National television and film stars such as Jack Doherty, Daniela Nardini and Peter Mullan presented other awards at the ceremony.
The ‘New Found Land’ series of short television dramas backed by Scottish Screen and Scottish Media Group picked up a total of five separate nominations and a win for the young actor Stuart Wilkinson in ‘Kings of the Wild Frontier’.
