Bowmore Scottish Screen Award winners 2004 announced

The winners of this year’s Bowmore Scottish Screen Awards – as voted for by the readers of Sunday Times Scotland – have been announced.
The film ‘American Cousins’ dominates, with Shirley Henderson taking the Best Actress award for her performance in that film, along with her roles in ‘Wilbur Wants To Kill Himself’ and ‘Intermission’.
American Cousins won Best Film for its producers, Margaret Matheson and Don Coutts and best Film-Maker for its screen writer, Sergio Casci. James Cosmo took Best Actor for his roles in ‘Man Dancin’, ‘One Last Chance’ and ‘The Four Feathers’.
The prizewinners will receive their awards at a special awards lunch at Edinburgh Castle on Sunday June 20 2004.
The awards are the only honours that are chosen by the Scottish public; as such they are highly prized by their recipients. Kathleen McDermott, the winner of last year’s Best Actress award for her role in Morven Callar, said: “This award means so much to me because it was the public who decided it. It is brilliant to think my performance impacted on people enough for them to vote for me.”
Scottish Screen Chief Executive Steve McIntyre said: “The Bowmore Scottish Screen Awards are now well established as the industry standard in Scotland and we are indebted to Morrison Bowmore Distillers for their continued support. These awards are hotly contested and we are delighted that this year’s Bowmores honour some of our most internationally renowned actors.”
Kenneth Mackay, Morrison Bowmore’s Sales and Marketing Director, said: “It’s a real pleasure for us at Bowmore to honour films and actors chosen solely by the Scottish public. The winners this year are real proof that the Scottish film industry is thriving and we’re delighted that Scotland’s No 1 Islay malt is able to support that.”
