REUTERS AND OPENTV SIGN DIGITAL NEWS DEAL

OPENTV, the interactive television and media company, and Reuters, who have online news desks in the UK, have announced an agreement that will see Reuters will provide content for OpenTV.
This agreement enhances OpenTV’s leadership in the delivery of working interactive media applications that can be immediately deployed worldwide, and is Reuter’s first entry into the digital interactive TV sector.
Mark Trasenster, Managing Director of Reuters Media, UK and Ireland, said: “Reuters have already established a backbone presence on the Web as leading multimedia news and content providers. This exciting relationship with OpenTV gives us access to digital interactive TV as a new and fast-growing delivery tool and will help to bring the Reuters brand alive to the consumer in their living room.”
Reuters will supply OpenTV with Online Reports which will feature national, international, sports, entertainment and business news stories.
Reuters Online Reports, with linked pictures and graphics, are expected to be delivered as a multimedia package in NewsML via the internet. NewsML is the new industry standard for news delivery pioneered by Reuters and recently ratified by the International Press Telecommunications Council (IPTC).
