Reuters selects Pro-Bel routing technology for London move

Pro-Bel, a premier manufacturer and supplier of routing switchers, signal processing, master control, automation and workflow technologies, has announced that Reuters, the international multimedia news agency, is using its routing technology in its new premises in London’s Canary Wharf.
Reuters recently moved from a number of premises in Central London, to bring staff under one roof at Canary Wharf, the new financial and news services heart of the UK’s capital.
Reuters has purchased and installed a Sirius 256 x 256 router currently equipped 192 x 192. The company has also upgraded to the latest Procion control system which is interfacing with Pro-Bel’s Aurora router control technology.
The Sirius router, plus Pro-Bel control systems, sit at the heart of a brand new MCR in the new building and see Reuters in London move to embedded audio for the first time.
According to Phil Thomas, Project Manager, Television, this has proved successful in several other bureaux around the world. He said: “We are moving to SDI with embedded audio because it is more cost effective and will provide us with higher quality.”
In a separate announcement, Reuters in London has also purchased a Halo router from Pro-Bel in order to further explore the world of HD and to know how best to satisfy emerging demand. “HD is beginning to grow in importance in our sector,” said Thomas, “and we want to continue to expand our practical knowledge of it. One of the reasons behind the Sirius purchase is that it benefits from a clear upgrade path to HD capabilities.”
Graham Pitman, CEO, Pro-Bel Group, added: “We have a long and successful relationship with Reuters in the UK and these latest purchases extend that still further. We look forward to being able to assist in the ongoing exploration of, and move to, HD services.”
