STAYT TO ANCHOR CHANNEL 5 NEWS

CHANNEL 5 have announced Charlie Stayt is to take over in the New Year as anchor for the channel’s evening ‘5 News’ bulletin at 6pm on weekdays.
Stayt (pictured) has presented the channel’s half-hour weekend evening news programmes ‘5 News and Sport’ which regularly attracted a million viewers and are the channels most watched news programmes.
Stayt said: “Working with the 5 News team continues to be the most rewarding and professional experience. I’m delighted to be taking up the role as anchor and continue working with such an innovative team.”
Stayt takes over the role from Andrea Catherwood who is returning to ITV to work as a special reporter.
Gary Rogers, ‘5 News’ Editor, said: “Charlie is one of the most recognisable faces of ‘5 News’. Viewers find him authoritative, reassuring and approachable. We look forward to him continuing to take our news forward in terms of approach and presentation.”
Stayt joined ITN in 1995 and was part of the original 5 News team. He has also fronted Channel 5’s current affairs programme ‘It Happened to Me’ and the reality game show ‘Jailbreak’.
