DGP completes £350,000 expansion

With an investment of £350,000, DGP, the Soho based DVD and postproduction facility, is expanding both in terms of physical space and in new and upgraded kit.
This August has seen DGP signing off on a lease to add a 1/3 extra space to their existing 6000 sq ft capacity which currently houses their editing , graphics, VOD, DVD,HD-DVD, UMD, DVD Extra and digital delivery facilities.
The expansion will give more room for the five new FischHase DVD emulators, taking DGP up to ten DVD emulators, as well giving more space for HD-DVD and the seven Toshiba Authoring stations and four Encoders. The DVD department is now served by a 4 terabyte fibre SAN with a Sony SAIT cart tape back up system. Given the size of the DVD department, this investment was a must have to deliver data throughput to all the operators.
DGP has also invested in a Flame V9.5 and upgraded its Flint to V9.5 to accommodate the expanding demand in multi resolution and HD post as well as in HD DVD menu design.
The Flame and Flint are backed up by Burn, Discreet’s rendering system. This works in the background freeing the operator get on to the next part of the job - A real step change in efficiency and work flow for DGP’s design department.
Mark Gardner, Managing Director at DGP, said: "This is all about moving to meet the devloping needs of our clients. The SAN system and the extra office space will enable us to increase the number of DVD titles we achieve, especially now we offer HD-DVD, UMD and DVD Extra as well. The Discreet Flame and Burn has given resolution independence on the time line and HD capability - a real step change in efficiency and work flow for DGP’s graphics department."
