HTV WEST SEEK RECOLLECTIONS FOR ‘REMEMBER WHEN’

IN A brand new series, scheduled to screen later this year, HTV West will be rolling back the years with archive footage and viewers’ memories.
‘Remember When’, a six-part series to be presented by Richard Wyatt, will take a look at a variety of subjects going back to the 1940’s, and is keen to hear from anyone who has old footage, photographs and memories to share.
The researchers are looking for people who worked the Wills tobacco factory in Bristol, which in its heyday employed more than 30,000 people. If you remember the brewery that once operated from premises near Bristol Bridge then that too is one of the subjects under consideration. The programme makers would also like to hear from Kleen-eze salesmen, as the company operated from Hanham.
The Port of Bristol and shipping will be the focus of another programme. So if you recall the SS Great Britain’s return to Bristol or if you were aboard then HTV West want to hear from you. They would also like to know what it was like working at the Royal Portbury Dock.
Transport in the region will also feature. Who for example was the driver of the last tram in Bristol in 1941? Did you see the last trams being towed to the breakers yard in Kingswood?
The village of Charlton was destroyed in the early 1940s to make way for the Brabazon aircraft. Do you have film or pictures of this vanished village?
Other programmes will recall the entertainment of the era such as the cinemas, and explore the heritage of the mining industry. At one stage there were no fewer than 100 collieries operating between South Gloucestershire and the Mendips the last of which closed in 1973.
If you have any film footage, pictures or recall the 1940s write to: ‘Remember When,’ HTV West, 470 Bath Road, Bristol, BS4 3HG. Don’t forget to include details and a daytime telephone number. (SP)
