BBC BRISTOL SELECT CUSTOM CONSOLES

CUSTOM Consoles, designers and manufacturers of technical furniture to the broadcast industry, have recently completed the design and installation of a custom designed ‘smart desk’ for the BBC’s Post Production Unit in Bristol.
Andy King, Post Production Manager of BBC Resources at Bristol and Birmingham, said: “Having worked with Custom Consoles on previously successful projects, it seemed a natural choice to select this professional company again to provide us with custom designed furniture for our post production unit. It was necessary that the desk system incorporated motorised movement of the monitor shelf on two axes, whilst complying to industry health and safety standards. Custom Consoles were able to devise a technical solution to this as well as to our ergonomic and budgetary specifications.”
The ‘smart desk’ provides two axes of motorisation for a heavy monitor shelf, incorporating a layer for built-in equipment. The system provides a fixed height desk with monitor shelf that is electrically adjustable for height and forwards and backwards movement. The system will be used with the BBC’s latest ‘Fire’ system from Discreet in post production on some top-end natural history projects for the BBC and external clients. (CD)
