SHORT FILMS SELECTED FOR CANNES FILM FESTIVAL
A short film made under a Sgrîn initiative will be screened at the world-famous Cannes International Film Festival, which starts on May 9.
‘A Heap of Trouble’, written and directed by Cardiff-based Steve Sullivan, has been selected for screening by the jury of the prestigious International Critic’s Week, and will be shown in a special programme of international shorts on May 15.
The three-minute film is one of ten short films made under the Screen Gems initiative, co-financed by the Arts Council of Wales, British Screen and Channel 4.
‘A Heap of Trouble’ shows the chaos that ensues when a group of nine naked men march down a suburban street on a quiet summer’s afternoon. The film, produced by Jane Dauncey, has already attracted much attention since it was released at the end of last year and it is in great demand for overseas festivals and broadcast screenings.
Another short, ‘The Letter-Box’, written and directed by Sophie Cobb, has been selected for screening in Cannes in a programme organised by the Short Film Bureau. ‘The Letter-Box’, produced by Pauline Williams, was made under the Sgrîn and BBC Wales RareBits initiative and co-financed by the Arts Council of Wales. (CD)
