Corinthian expands with Hi Tech control

Hi Tech Systems has delivered multiple server controllers to London-based Corinthian for use in playout, studio and quality control areas.
Over two-and-a-half years 10 actiV Filer and two CartBox server controllers have been tightly integrated into Corinthian’s systems to help maintain their 24/7 multichannel playout services and studio operations.
Six Hi Tech actiV Filers complement the transmission automation system so that, in the unlikely event of a complete automation failure or when taking it down for essential maintenance or software upgrades, the 24-hour channels stay on air. Jim Nicholl, Senior Manager Technology and Engineering at Corinthian, said: “We’d prefer not to have to pull tapes for backups so we developed a piece of software with Hi Tech that would take our traffic schedule from whatever server platform it might be. This takes the primary events – the scheduled programmes and promos, the audio and video.”
Harris automation runs the transmissions. Its schedules are processed to produce playlists for loading to the actiV Filers from a PC using Hi Tech’s actiV Loader software – so each actiV Filer has a playlist for each service and acts as playout control backup. The TV channels include three UK satellite channels and a Scandinavian channel using Grass Valley Profile servers, and a Freeview service using Omneon servers. Each channel is run from a suite that includes an actiV Filer. Besides the automation backup role, the controllers are also used to preview material.
