DNF Controls launches Analyst Series

DNF Controls has introduced the Analyst RS422/RS232 Tester, the first offering in its new ‘the Analyst’ test equipment product series.
The Analyst RS422/RS232 Tester allows users to quickly and easily isolate, identify, and resolve RS422 and RS232 interface problems. Whether testing cable runs between floors or between buildings, verifying RS422 and RS232 signal paths, or chasing down an RS422-to-RS232 adapter problem, the Analyst provides the features required to resolve the problem quickly.
RS232 or RS422 control interfaces are standard on most VTRs, video servers, A/V routers, still stores, and other equipment found in broadcast or production facilities.
"Anyone working with RS232 and RS422 cabling and equipment understands how difficult and time consuming it can be to track down the problem that is keeping your system off the air," said DNF Controls' Broadcast Sales Representative, Robert Goldsobel. "The Analyst is an easy-to-use, intuitive, troubleshooting tool that enables experts and non-experts alike to quickly separate 'what is the problem' from 'what is not the problem.' It allows resources to be directed at fixing the 'real' problem, rather than running around in circles, which we have all done from time to time."
The Analyst RS422/RS232 Tester makes it very easy to identify cable-wiring errors without opening up cables or de-soldering pins. What used to take 30 minutes and required special knowledge now can be done in seconds by anyone.
Additionally, The Analyst provides a simple, intuitive way to confirm that two ends of a cable, located on different floors or in different parts of the building, are indeed attached to the same cable, preventing lost work hours from mislabeled cables.
Even after confirming that the wiring is correct, the RS232 or RS422 system still may not operate due to system baud rate and parity setting errors. The Analyst provides a simple, intuitive way for the non-technical person to check the system's baud rate and parity.
The Analyst RS422/RS232 Tester is a compact, handheld device with an easy-to-read four-line by 40-character display, eight-key keyboard, RS422 and RS232 connectors, and external power supply. An optional, external battery pack will be available.
"The Analyst is the result of our many years working with customers to identify, isolate, and resolve RS422 and RS232 system problems," added Goldsobel. "Being a control solutions provider, DNF is always looking for tools that will make it faster and easier to identify and resolve these problems. The Analyst is the first product of its kind to bring this level of functionality together in one simple package."
