Oriental Post enhances DI Capabilities with Resolve system from da Vinci

da Vinci Systems has announced that leading Asian postproduction house Oriental Post has purchased a Resolve digital mastering suite for non-linear colour enhancement of commercials, television programmes, feature films, and theatrical works.
Already experienced with da Vinci's 2K Plus, Oriental Post has selected Resolve to ensure the most efficient workflow for digital intermediate (DI) projects.
"We chose da Vinci's system after our evaluation of other DI-applicable technologies revealed three key attributes that could only be found in Resolve," said John Galvin, Oriental Post's Head of Post Production. "First, Resolve has the blazing-fast throughput speeds that we need to process the quantity and complexity of projects that come through our facility. It provides a logical, efficient workflow that facilitates efficient colour processing, and it uses non-proprietary storage that we can also use as our house SAN."
Bangkok, Thailand-based Oriental Post provides services to customers across the entire Asia Pacific region and to customers in the United States. With a large production staff that includes more than 10 colourists and three existing da Vinci colour enhancement suites, Oriental Post offers its clients a complete end-to-end digital post-processing solution that includes visual effects, editing, 3D animation, and audio. The Resolve suite will be the first digital post-production suite of its kind in the region.
Resolve combines da Vinci's renowned colour enhancement technology with program-conforming tools designed specifically for the DI environment. Resolve's open architecture allows for a smooth overall workflow beginning with the browsing and selection of image data from a LAN/SAN or local storage. EDLs from an offline edit can then conform this material, and in-context colour enhancement is completed on the edited master. Acceleration with exclusive PowerPlant massively parallel associative processing hardware allows image processing to be seen immediately without the compromise of render-caching delays or low-resolution proxies.
Resolve's totally non-linear approach allows for superior flexibility and speed, while maintaining the comfort of the traditional da Vinci control panels. Images of mixed resolution up to 4K and beyond are handled with internal processing of 64 bits for RGBY and controlled from the node-type display. Corrections can be cascaded or added in parallel in the unique da Vinci fashion, making Resolve the perfect solution for the growing digital intermediate market.
