ALTERED IMAGES COMPLETE £300,000 CONTRACT

ALTERED IMAGES, the fast growing London-based digital broadcast systems resellers, have just completed a £300,000 contract for Pearson Television, supplying and installing a dedicated production suite for the company’s ground breaking broadcast project, ‘The History of Football’.
Part of the RTL Group, Pearson Television Productions makes a variety of popular TV programmes including ‘The Bill’, ‘Wish You Were Here’ and ‘The Brian Conley Show’, while the facilities arm provides post, graphics, audio, studio and playout services to a wide range of major broadcast clients, including Discovery, Channel 5, Universal and Disney.
The new equipment at Pearson Television’s premises in Stephen Street, London WC1, just off Tottenham Court Road, comprises of five Avid Media Composer systems and an Avid Mediashare/Unity system. It was supplied, installed and commissioned by Altered Images in two weeks from Pearson Television’s order.
John Cooper, Pearson’s Head of Facilities, said: “Altered Images provided a turnkey solution, from specifying the equipment needed, through to delivering and installing it to fit our timetable. I knew David Johnson and the team from my previous company, and I was totally confident that they would not only complete the job in the time, but would also meet the rest of our tough criteria.”
The complete list of equipment installed by Altered Images consists of four Avid Media Composer MC1000 XL NT systems. These are on-line systems, but are being used off-line for ‘The History of Football’, together with an Avid Media Composer Offline XL NT system.
Each of the new Avid editing systems was set up by Altered Images in their own separate suite linked to the main suite, an Avid Media Composer MC1000 which is used to digitise all the material coming in from DigiBeta, Betacam SP and DVC PRO.
Pearson Television’s new Avids are each connected to an Avid Mediashare/Unity system, which is located outside the main digital suite and set up as a 5-user system, with two Terrabytes of Avid storage.
The main digitising system is used to take archive material for ‘The History Of Football’ from tape onto the shared storage, so each editor working on the project can see and edit the material. This allows the production team to prepare the programme in an offline, 15:1 compression resolution, before conforming later to the edit decision lists at online, to finish the programme. (CD)
