Custom Consoles introduces noise-reduction bay

A new addition to the Custom Consoles Media Desk range of studio and graphic workstation furniture, the MD5003 noise-reduction bay accommodates 27 U of equipment.
It has a 6mm laminated clear-glass front-facing door plus rear access doors, all with acoustic sealing, providing up to 13 dB of acoustic isolation. This enables relatively noisy equipment such as computers to be housed in edit suites rather than in a remote room.
The MD5003 incorporates internal and external temperature sensors plus a rear-facing low-noise radial fan with continuously variable speed adjustment. The main structure is of 19 mm medium-density-fibreboard with a variety of surface options. The front door can be opened by a handle and the rear door by a catch which rotates to compress a foam sealing-strip surround.
Custom Consoles Sales Manager Gary Fuller said: "Modern computers are quieter than their predecessors but disk drives and internal cooling fans are still distracting in a studio. The MD5003 was developed for the BBC, which has already bought the first 30 units. There is an evident need among other broadcasters and post-production facilities for a housing of this type."
