BBC TECHNOLOGY AND DIRECT DIGITAL PLASMA JOIN FORCES
BBC Technology and Direct Digital Plasma are collaborating to develop and market a new chip which will transform both the quality and cost of plasma television pictures.
Plasma screens based on innovative technology from the award winning BBC Research & Development (R & D) division have already been sold by Electrograph Delphi. The screens offer outstanding picture quality and have won a number of awards, including award for 'Enhancement of Television' in conjunction with Fujitsu General at the NAB 1998.
Improving the standard of colours and images is a vital factor in growing the presence of Digital and High Definition Television across the world. The technology which eliminates these problems commonly associated with plasma monitors will provide the basis for the ultimate market proposition resulting from this collaboration.
A key driver in encouraging the use of Digital HDTV is also the cost of required components. BBC Technology and Direct Digital Plasma are focusing on making chips which are as economic as possible and therefore push forward the take up of plasma television.
BBC Technology have the mandate to exploit the Intellectual Property Rights of BBC R & D and along with Direct Digital Plasma aims to produce a chip which will become the industry standard. (CD)
