University of Greenwich choose Discreet plasma

The University of Greenwich School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences have installed 39 user licenses of Discreet's new 3D web design software - plasma - for their 3D Animation course.
The licences were supplied by Pugh Computers, an Educational reseller for Discreet software.
Course Lecturer, Emma Bowness-Smith, said: "We will be using plasma as a web design tool for teaching students the fundamentals of web animation.
"We were impressed by the export compatibility with Shockwave and Director and the affordability of the software."
Students will use plasma to complete two coursework assignments, creating a 500-frame animation based on an advert and animating an inanimate object with sound.
The single semester course has proven to be one of the most popular modules with students as they seek to gain an introduction to the web 3D industry.
Initially the software will be used to teach students how to create .avi files and get to grips with using 3D for commercial and artistic web animation purposes.
It is planned to run further courses that will look at how plasma can be used for gaming and interactive 3D on the web.
