S4C’S ‘TALES OF THE WORLD’ SCOOPS TOP AWARD
A FILM commissioned as part of the world's largest ever co-production venture, S4C's animated ‘Tales of the World’, has won a top award at the Seoul International Cartoon and Animation Festival.
‘Aunt Tiger’, one of 26 animated films making up the 26-country S4C co-production, won the 'Best TV and Video Special' category in the biennial event.
The 15-minute animation, which also won the Banff Rockie Award 2001 student jury for ‘Best Animation Programme’, is based on a story from Taiwan.
An elderly tiger that wants to become human before it dies discovers its dream will come true if it eats three children at once; however its plans are thwarted by a young girl.
Made in Cardiff, the cartoon was a co-production between Aaargh! Animation and Public Television Taiwan. It was broadcast on S4C last year.
Chris Grace, S4C's Director of Animation, was the series' executive producer. He said: "The Animated Tales of the World is a unique venture involving 26 countries, resulting in a series shown in a hundred countries and dubbed into thirty different languages. S4C are delighted with the series' success and with this latest award for Aunt Tiger - what better way to bring the colour, drama and excitement of world-wide heritage alive than through animation." (CD)
