Animation Magic To Take Top Award At IBC 2006

The 2006 IBC International Award for Excellence will go to Aardman Animations, the British animation studio most famous for its stop motion models including Wallace and Gromit and Creature Comforts – and a host of successful commercials. Perhaps less well known is that Aardman is also active in computer generated animation.
In a session called 'From Plasticine to Pixels' founder David Sproxton, Director of Photography Dave Alex Riddett and Technical Director Tom Barnes will be talking about their workas well as exhibiting it.
The showcase is part of the IBC Big Screen – the state of the art digital cinema built just for IBC in the RAI Auditorium at 14.00 on Sunday 10.
Executive Chairman of Aardman Animations David Sproxton said: "We are delighted to have won this award. Model animation is a creative and technical process and everyone in the team contributes to its success through commitment and innovation. It is very gratifying to be recognised for the small part Aardman has played."
Aardman Animations works on ideas in all formats - plasticine, flash, cgi and model animation. Recent programmes developed include 'Creature Comforts' which has appeared on ITV1, 'The Presentators' on Nickelodeon and 'Angry Kid' on BBC 3. The company are also responsible for BBC Three's 'blob's' idents, and the award winning BBC 2 'Bookworms' were created.
Peter Lord and David Sproxton set up Aardman Animations in Bristol in 1976.
