TOP AWARD FOR ANIMATED CHILDREN’S SERIES
DEVON based animation company, Honeycomb Animation, and Elephant Productions have been awarded the Gold World Medal in the Children’s Programmes category of the New York Festivals for their production ‘Grizzly Tales For Gruesome Kids’.
The animated series was produced for Carlton Television and distributed internationally by Carlton International.
The winning episode, ‘The New Nanny’, is one of 52 ten-minute episodes of the animated series, which has already won five other international awards at festivals including the Golden Gate Awards, Cartoons on the Bay and the Prix Jeunesse.
Grizzly Tales has been hugely successful internationally, selling in over 60 countries worldwide. Further episodes of the series were re-commissioned last year for delivery in 2001 and 2002 and have already been pre-sold to territories including Singapore and Malaysia.
Mark Gray, Carlton International's Controller of Programme Development, said: “We are delighted with Grizzly Tale's latest award success - it demonstrates the enduring appeal of top quality animation combined with witty stories that kids and their parents can relate to.”
‘Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids’ is adapted from award winning books by Jamie Rix. They are humorous, modern day cautionary tales in which naughty children get their comeuppance.
In the course of the gruesome animated series, rude tongues are trimmed, couch potatoes are baked into cheese and onion crisps, precious fashion victims are sent to school with no clothes on, and moaning minnies are minced into spaghetti when they don't eat their food. (CMcL)
