MCGANN LAUNCHES CINEMAGIC PROGRAMME

THE programme for the 12th Cinemagic film festival for young people was launched by actor Paul McGann at Warner Village Cinemas at the Odyssey in Belfast.
This year’s festival will run from November 29 to December 9. All screenings will take place at Warner Village Cinemas, a 12-screen state-of-the-art facility which uses the latest digital and surround sound technology to bring cinema to life for young film fans, and whowhatwherewhenwhy better known as W5 at the Odyssey will host a number of key events.
Cinemagic are continuing with their record of attracting top industry professionals to come and share their skills at the UK’s premier film event for young people. The line-up this year includes Dermot O’Leary, Amanda Byram, Ian Hart, Aidan Gillen, Paul McGann, Ronan Bennett and Adrian Dunbar.
Cinemagic will feature a wide variety of Special Premieres, Previews and Short Film Packages from all over the world. The festival will open with the Irish Premiere of ‘A Christmas Carol: The Movie’, featuring the voices of Kate Winslet, Jane Horrocks and Nicholas Cage. Another highlight is ‘The Princess Diaries’, a smash US box office hit about a shy San Francisco teenager who discovers she is a real-life princess.
Cinemagic’s commitment to well-loved classics continues with special screenings of ‘The Wizard of Oz’, ‘Father Christmas’, ‘The Snowman’, ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’, Of Mice and Men’, ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’, and ‘Watership Down’. Cinemagic will also have an exclusive showing of Walt Disney’s ‘Cinderella’, to commemorate Walt Disney’s 100th birthday.
A new addition to this year’s programme is the ‘Cinemagic Unlocking Talent Awards’. This UK-wide initiative aims to find talented young people who have the potential to make a significant contribution to the film, television and new media industries.
Applications to take part in the awards programme are open to young people between the ages of 14-25, who have special interest in any of the following fields: acting, directing, presenting, producing, cinematography, scriptwriting, music for film, special effects and 3D modelling.
Young people who are chosen to take part in the awards programme will be invited to participate in the Talent Lab, a tailored 3day programme of keynotes, seminars, workshops, careers advice and industry exhibitions, across the full range of talent areas, which will take place at W5.
The ‘Cinemagic Unlocking Talent Awards’ are supported by BAFTA and the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA).
The closing date for awards applications is November 15.
