THOMSON MULTIMEDIA RECEIVE EMMY
BROADCAST & Network Solutions of Thomson multimedia have announced that they have been awarded a Scientific and Technological Emmy Award for "pioneering developments in shared video-data storage systems technology for use in television video servers."
The technology was first made commercially available in the Media Pool server delivered to Home and Garden TV (Scripps-Howard) in 1994 and is the technology used by most SAN system manufacturers.
As holders of the many storage area network (SAN) patents in video and broadcast technology, Thomson multimedia's servers incorporate the latest in SAN technology. Thomson multimedia's research and development teams continue to build on the SAN technologies first delivered in Media Pool, with our new Nextore server.
More than 270 THOMSON servers, the first commercially available SAN products, are in use throughout the world serving approximately 2,500 channels every day.
SAN technology offers simplified data storage management, scalability, flexibility, availability, and improved data access, movement, and backup. As the broadcast industry moves towards a digital facility infrastructure and multiple channel single facility broadcasting, one of the key enabling technologies are those found in SANs. SAN technology allows a broadcaster to manage their content data and telecasts on a large scale with hours of program content and commercials available online from SAN servers such as Thomson multimedia's Media Pool and Nextore severs.
