Brookhaven National Laboratory Chooses Thomson Technology

Brookhaven National Laboratory has selected Thomson Broadcast to supply technology for its NSLS-II Project in Long Island, New York.
The new National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II) will provide a state-of-the-art, three billion electron-volt storage ring delivering world-leading intensity and brightness, and generating x-rays more than 10,000 times brighter than the current NSLS facility.
Thomson Broadcast is supplying two klystron-based RF amplifiers/high-voltage power supplies for the storage ring of the new light source, together with a Inductive Output Tube (IOT)-based booster amplifier for the Linear Accelerator (LINAC).
Brookhaven National Laboratory's current NSLS is one of the world's most widely-used scientific facilities. Each year, 2,100 researchers from 400 universities, government laboratories, and companies use its bright beams of x-rays, ultraviolet light, and infrared light for research in such diverse fields as biology and medicine, chemistry and environmental sciences, physics and materials science.
The new NSLS-II will provide upgraded facilities, allowing scientists to conduct groundbreaking research in fields such as nanotechnology, clean energy, molecular electronics and high-temperature superconductors.
Richard Flore, Vice President of Worldwide Sales, Thomson Broadcast, said: "Brookhaven National Laboratory's new light source facility is a very important addition to the infrastructure available for conducting world-leading science. We are delighted to have Brookhaven National Laboratory among Thomson's extensive community of customers in the research and scientific market. Our long-standing experience in this market segment made us a strong candidate to manufacture, deliver and commission these key subassemblies for the NSLS-II project."
