BRISTOL CELEBRATES SHORTS
BRITAIN’S biggest short film festival, Bristol’s Brief Encounters, is back from November 14-18 at the Watershed Media Cenrtre.
The five-day celebration of the cinematic short will screen over 300 films including 60 world and UK premieres, from film-makers as far afield as Korea to Argentina.
Festival Director Eimear Carolan said: “With the demise of the London-based BBC Short Film Festival, Brief Encounters is the UK’s only major platform for lovers and makers of short films and this year we’ve attracted more funding, more sponsorship and more international submissions - double last year - with over 1,100 films from 48 countries. So this year’s festival has expanded to include more awards and more programmes and events with everything from funding, distribution and script writing sessions for budding film-makers to screenings of work by established names such as David Cronenberg and Luis Buñuel, plus work by film-makers from the South West.”
Brief Encounters is supported by: Bristol City Council, European Media Programme, Film Council, SWMDA (South West Media Development Agency), Pathé, HTV, Global Rights, Rizla, Crest Nicholson, Aardman Animation, Rushes, BritShorts, McCann Erickson, Bank of Scotland, Norwich Union, Kodak, Jameson Whiskey, Films @59, GWR, Short Circuit, Travel Inn, The Brigstow Hotel, Bristol Chamber of Commerce and Initiative, Solomon Hare, Hewlett Packard, and McMillan.
