CORK FILM FESTIVAL PRIZE FUND FOR SHORTS

ORGANIZERS of the Murphy’s Cork Film Festival have announced details of a new prize fund for this year’s short film competition.
The festival which opens at the refurbished Opera House on October 15, runs at various venues across Cork city until October 22.
The short film awards, with an overall prize fund of £57,000, will be the largest in Europe. The Jameson Award for Best International Short Film is to the value of £20,000, the Award for Best Irish Short Film is to the value of £25,500, and the Award for Best Short Film values at £2000.
At the launch, Festival Manager, Rory Concannon, said: “These awards will give us a greater means to reward and acknowledge excellence and for that we are particularly grateful to Jameson and Irish Distillers. Our prize fund is now the largest in Europe and this is a terrific boost to filmmakers in Ireland and internationally.”
As well as short film programmes, the festival will feature a number of seminars and conferences, including a documentary masterclass presented by Peter Wintonick, seminars on the Short Film Schemes of the Irish Film Board, and a number of industry demonstrations.
