Subtitling From Itfc Boosts Encounters Shorts Festival
A leading West London-based media access services provider, itfc, has provided subtitling and audio description for a special screening of the Best of British: Made in the South West programme for the second year in a row at this year’s Encounters short film festival.
The screening will take place at the Watershed Media Centre, Bristol on Saturday 21 November at 4.30pm.
The category presents the best local short films, showcasing the wealth of talent in the region with entries competing for the South West Award and the South West Screen Audience Award at the festival.
This year’s entries include Wallace and Gromit: A Matter of Loaf and Death and Flogging Molly Float an animated short that combines photography and animation.
The programme also includes the UK premiere of All my Dreams on VHS, winner of the Audience Award at the Bucharest International Short Film Festival in April. "Audio describing All my Dreams on VHS was challenging as the audience never sees the dreams. They just see the actors’ reactions," said James O’Hara, Managing Editor, itfc. "We had to describe their reactions in detail to make sure the listener had the most comparable experience to someone who could view the film."
Encounters Director Liz Harkman said: "We’re delighted to welcome back itfc. We wholeheartedly support their commitment to raising awareness among blind, partially sighted, deaf and partially deaf people that they can go to an audio described or subtitled film at the cinema and enjoy the same experience as anyone else. We hope this year’s screening will help raise awareness of this fact, as well as allowing many more people to enjoy the fantastic shorts from the West Country that’ve been selected this year.”
