TREVES REAPPOINTED CHANNEL 4 CHAIRMAN
VANNI Treves has been re-appointed as Chairman of Channel 4, the Independent Television Commission (ITC) have announced.
His term of appointment is extended to the end of 2003 and, as required by legislation, the Secretary of State for Media, Culture & Sport has approved the ITC's decision.
Treves has been Channel 4 Chairman since January 1998. He is a senior partner of the major firm of city solicitors, Macfarlanes, with whom he has spent his entire career. He also has considerable experience as chairman of several public companies. He is currently Chairman of both Equitable Life and the London Business School.
Sir Robin Biggam, Chairman of the ITC, said: “The ITC is delighted that Mr Treves will be continuing in this demanding public role. Channel 4 is entering a significant new phase as it awaits the appointment of a new Chief Executive to replace Michael Jackson. I am sure that Mr Treves' experience, knowledge and business acumen will be invaluable to Channel 4 as it continues to deliver the varied and innovative programming required by its remit.”
Michael Jackson, Channel 4 Chief Executive, said: “On behalf of Channel 4's board I warmly welcome Vanni's reappointment. Continuity is important for any business, particularly so during an economic downturn, and Vanni's knowledge of Channel 4, his robust support for its remit and values and the experience he has gained during his distinguished legal career will continue to serve the channel's best interests. I wish him well during his second term as Channel 4's chairman.”
The post of Channel 4 Chairman is a part-time appointment. The Chairman receives £62,000 a year as remuneration.
