ITC APPOINT NEW CCG CHAIRMAN

THE Independent Television Commission (ITC) have appointed John A MacAskill as the new Chairman of the Gaelic Broadcasting Committee (CCG).
MacAskill, OBE has been a member of the CCG for five years. In that time the Committee has benefited from his financial expertise, senior level management experience and knowledge of the Highlands and Islands. He succeeds Matthew MacIver whose term as Chairman ended earlier this year.
At present, MacAskill is the Chairman of the Crofters Commission where he is responsible for policy and overseeing the efficiency of the organisation. A qualified chartered accountant, MacAskill has held various professional posts in this area and was notably the Director of European Affairs and Director of Finance at Highlands and Islands Enterprise where he was responsible for an annual budget of £75 million.
MacAskill has previously served as Board Secretary, Chief Officer and an Executive Board Member of the Highlands and Islands Development Board where he had overall responsibility for the organisation and controlled a budget of £50 million. He has headed a finance and management service and his other skills include press and media relations and investment appraisal.
MacAskill's term as Chairman will run to December 2003. (CD)
