World’s most watched broadcaster buys Quantel eQ

The production unit of China Central Television (CCTV) in Beijing, the China Teleplay Production Center (CTPC), has recently acquired a Quantel eQ, citing both the reputation of Quantel and the affordability of generationQ as its two principal reasons behind the purchase.
The CTPC produces over 300 teleplays per year, with a growing emphasis on the use of digital effects driving the need for a new machine to cope with online finishing, effects editing and to work as a hub system within the division.
CCTV is the national television station of the People's Republic of China, and as such takes the lead on the adoption of new technologies and platforms.
Featuring 20 channels, 14 analogue and six digital, around two thirds of the programmes aired are produced by CCTV, attracting more than one billion viewers. This makes any new equipment mission-critical to the operation of what is arguably the most watched station in the world.
The CTPC itself has over 350 employees producing teleplays which are first aired on the national channels before syndication, and the eQ is the first piece of generationQ equipment it has purchased.
Mr Yao Ping, Senior Engineer at CTPC, said: "Quantel has a predominant reputation in the market. We increasingly need to do special effects in our teleplays at the post production stage, and the eQ enables us to do this. We have always wanted to have Quantel, and now the eQ is affordable for facilities like CTPC."
Commenting on the purchase, newly appointed General Manager for Quantel China, Daniel Jia said: "It is very exciting for Quantel that the standard bearer of Chinese broadcast production has purchased eQ. This shows that generationQ has really come of age in China."
