BBC Broadcast create graphics for British Academy Film Awards
BBC Broadcast, one of the commercial arms of the BBC, has been commissioned by Initial, which is part of Endemol UK, to create the graphics for all 24 award categories for the Orange British Academy Film Awards which take place 15 February.
Produced by Initial and scheduled to be broadcast on BBC ONE later that evening, each award category given individual stings with audio incorporating the name of each award.
The creative idea was based on the shape and contours of the award itself - the world famous BAFTA mask. A line drawing was created which was then animated in 3D, so that the mask reveals itself as the title of each award announced. The movement and pace of the animation is dynamic and elegant adding to the passion and excitement of the night. BBC Broadcast also commissioned specific music spots to bring the stings to life and provide a sonic punctuation to heighten the excitement of each new award announcement.
The awards will be hosted by Stephen Fry, at The Odeon, Leicester Square. Nominees include Scarlett Johansson, Emma Thompson, Uma Thurman and Ian McKellen. Patrick Stewart, Jason Isaacs, LL Cool J, and Olivia Williams are amongst the celebrities presenting the Awards.
Andy Bryant, BBC Broadcast Director of Creative Services, said: “Working with the producers, lighting and set designers we set out to create a cohesive package for the night, tailoring the graphics to fit with the lighting and set changes throughout the event. Stings to top and tail the nominations, transitions to VT, straps and wipes all work to the same idea of the animating lines forming the iconic BAFTA mask, again following the colour scheme that is associated with each award.”
BBC Broadcast is part of BBC Ventures Group, the BBC's new commercial media services business comprising: BBC Resources, BBC Technology, BBC Broadcast and BBC Vecta.
BBC Broadcast offers a comprehensive range of services to play-out, publish, promote and provide media access for content across all media platforms.
