TWO AYSIS AIR PLUS CONSOLES IN CHINA
CHINESE provincial broadcaster Guangdong TV has ordered two 34-fader, 64-channel SSL Aysis Air Plus digital broadcast consoles.
Before their final installation - in two new studios at the broadcaster's Guangzhou City headquarters, the two new consoles will be put to use in a temporary broadcasting centre built to cover the 9th Chinese National Games.
The Games, which take place in mid November, are particularly significant this year as they mark the success of the Chinese bid for the summer Olympics in 2008, and the grand opening of the Guangzhou Olympic Centre Stadium, a 10 million square-foot showpiece housing an 80,000 seat stadium. Unlike any other stadium ever built, the structure has been conceived as an architectural icon, designed to relate to the physical environment and the history of the 3000-year old city.
Following their sporting debut, Guangdong TV will use the Aysis Air Plus consoles in studios primarily built for entertainment and drama productions. Digital Media Technology, SSL's Chinese distributor, will undertake both the temporary and permanent installations and will play a key role in support. According to SSL's Regional Manager Tim Harrison, the contract was fiercely contested but was eventually won on a combination of features and reputation. "We were able to demonstrate the considerable success of our installed base of digital consoles in the region and the reasons behind it - high quality product and equally high quality customer service."
Guangdong TV - which broadcasts to the region formerly known as Canton - has a potential satellite audience of two billion people in China and in neighbouring countries. The station broadcasts primarily in Mandarin 24-hours a day, with diversified programming that includes news, current affairs, movies and sport.
