FT2 trainees advise young hopefuls
Film and Television Freelance Training (FT2) has opened recruitment for its New Entrant Technical Training Programme.
Current trainees on the scheme are keen to offer advice to other young people seeking to establish careers in junior technical, production and craft grades of film and television. Amar Ingreji, 23, had made videos for a football club and had had a few days work experience as a runner on a feature film before joining FT2. He said: "It's a long application form and you need to sit down and take your time. I took a week to go through it as it is so important to try and convey in writing the sort of person you are. Also you need to be sure that the grade area you are applying for is absolutely what you want to do as you will be basing the whole of your career on it." Amar is training to be an Assistant Editor.
Sandrine Mugglestone, 25, relocated from Leicestershire to take up a place on the training programme. To apply to FT2 trainee Makeup/hair Assistants have to have already achieved NVQ Level 2 in both hairdressing and beauty therapy. Sandrine had previously worked as a beauty therapist. "Relocating to London is tough to start with but you soon get to know your way around moving from production to production. The scheme is great and I'm getting to meet loads of people in the industry and in the makeup department - I don't think I'd have done nearly so much without it."
This scheme is two years paid apprenticeship style training with the majority of the funding coming from the film and television industry through the Skillset Investment Funds. Application pack and application forms can be downloaded from the FT2 website on www.ft2.org.uk/recruit. Application forms must be submitted before April 1 2004.
