LONDON PRODUCTION MANAGERS GET ‘SIX OF THE BEST’
A SKILLSET funded training programme with FT2 has successfully launched the career of six new Production Manager Trainees.
The first six Production Manager Trainees fresh from the new 30-week scheme have all walked straight into employment. This is the first time programme has taken place with FT2 carrying out the training in association with the National Short Course Training Programme (NSCTP).
The graduates from the scheme are now working as Production Managers (PM)with the BBC, Carnival Films and Television, Hewland International, Warner Brothers, Working Title Films and with Leslee Udwin on her next feature.
Fiona Black, Production Manager on BBC’s ‘Holby City’, said: “The London Production Manager Training scheme provides an excellent overview of the job and its responsibilities. The short courses were excellent and backed up by practical application through production attachments. Essentially, we were encouraged by FT2 to think as PMs and experience the role from the inside. I gained immensely from doing the course and would recommend it to Coordinators looking to make the move up to production management.”
The six experienced drama freelances who started the programme in February went through a sequence of production attachments, short course training and assessment against Skillset Professional Qualifications in Production. The programme was established after research, commissioned by the Skillset London Forum and carried out by FT2, showed that production manager training was a priority need in London.
Dinah Caine, Chief Executive of Skillset, said: “This is another great example of all the industry working together to identify a training need and then develop a solution that actually addresses it. The programme encompassed exactly what the industry required resulting in every participant walking into employment. I’d like to congratulate all six trainees, FT2 and NSCTP.”
