PHILIPS AND DIGITURK REACH SET-TOP BOX MILESTONE

PHILIPS Digital Networks, leading supplier of digital TV solutions, have confirmed that they have delivered the 500,000th set-top box to Digiturk, a division of Digital Platform and Turkey’s largest broadcast service provider.
Digiturk have been a customer of Philips Digital Networks for advanced set-top boxes and technologies since early last year and the delivery of the 500,000th unit is a major milestone in Digiturk’s rollout of advanced digital TV services. The partnership with Philips emphasizes Digiturk’s strong position in maintaining a major share of the 17 million TV households in Turkey.
The 500,000 set-top boxes are Philips’ interactive digital satellite receivers of the type DSX6010 with OpenTV EN 2 middleware, CryptoWorks conditional access and a return channel. Embodied in the set-top boxes, Philips have created a unique end-user package that opens up the digital satellite market enabling features such as banking, gaming, enhanced Electronic Program Guides (EPGs) and enhanced TV – all at an accessible price to the consumer.
Commenting on the milestone delivery, Manfred Halbe, chairman of the business group Set-Top Boxes at Philips Digital Networks, said: “It is most satisfying to have reached the half-million mark with one of our most valued customers. By providing a solution that is flexible and designed according to Digiturk’s requirements, we are ensuring that both they and their subscribers will have their needs met now and in the future as the digital TV market further develops.”
