AMSTRAD’S LOWER COST DIGITAL SET TOP BOX

AMSTRAD Plc shares soared after the British consumer electronics group announced that satellite television broadcaster BskyB had approved use of its new low-cost digital set top box.
Alan Sugar, Chairman of Amstrad said that the new DRX200 unit, which incorporates a new chip set, placed Amstrad in a strong position to remain one of Sky’s key suppliers.
Sky, the leading digital TV service in the UK, currently has 4.5 million subscribers by the end of June and has set a target of seven million by the end of 2003.
Amstrad is one of five selected suppliers for digital satellite receivers and has supplied BskyB over the past two years.
