CINEMAGIC HELPS TO UNLOCK TALENT

NORTHERN Ireland Culture, Arts and Leisure Minister, Michael McGimpsey, has praised Cinemagic for the opportunities they providing for young people in the industry
The Minister was speaking at the City Hall in Belfast, where he was taking part in the presentation ceremony for the ‘Unlocking Talent Awards’, which recognise young people’s potential in the film industry.
Presenting the ‘Award for Most Outstanding Young Person’, which attracts a cash prize of £2,000 sponsored by his own Department, Mr McGimpsey said: “Cinemagic are giving our young people wonderful opportunities to make a name for themselves in the film industry as well as helping them to realise their full potential. The awards we are presenting tonight are a direct result of the ‘Unlocking Creativity’ initiative which is being led by my Department. It has the full support of the Departments of Enterprise, Trade and Investment, Education and Employment and Learning. This is evidence of the value of joined-up government and together we can develop the talent, which undoubtedly exists out there, and utilise it to the advantage of everyone in the Province.
“I hope all these creative young people receiving ‘Unlocking Talent Awards’ can go on to augment a thriving, indigenous media industry which is recognised widely for its excellence. That’s what I call putting Northern Ireland on the map. Very many congratulations to you all.”
The Minister was welcomed to the City Hall by the Chief Executive of Cinemagic, Michael Fearon, and by its Directors of Operations, Frances Cassidy.
