'Young Talent' recognised at Production Show

The organisers of the B+ Young Talent Awards announced the winners of the first annual awards at a ceremony held at The Production Show in London.
Sponsored by BBC Resources, the awards were to recognise and showcase TV and filmmaking talent in the UK and had over 200 entries from all over the country.
The judging panel, included representatives from The Farm, Arena, Static 2358, Videosonics, SMG Productions and BBC Resources.
The first of its kind in the country, the B+ Young Talent Awards recognises and showcases young TV and filmmaking talent in the UK. Judged by a panel of industry experts from entries nominated by Broadcast and B+ readers, the awards reflect elements of both production and post-production including visual effects, editing, directing and writing.
Judges were looking for signs of originality in the entrants' work, excellence in their chosen field and the ability to realise and communicate ideas and concepts within specified media.
“The standard of entries was high in some categories. The judges considered the creativity and talent displayed in the submitted reels as well as the written submissions. We were looking for the spark that hinted at future success rather than an established CV,” said Nicky Sargent, Managing Director of The Farm.
Among the winners were: Brian McGrath of Aardman (Animation); Andrew Cutbill of Ripping Gags Ltd (Writer); Mark Beardall, of Triangle Television, and Chris Knight, of The Mill (Visual Effects); Jake Polonsky (Camera); Marlon Griffin of MediaArc (Director); and Mark Thornton of Carnival Productions (Editor).
The B+ Talent Awards is part of The Production Show, which ran from May 21-23 at the London Olympia. It is the UK’s leading event, which covers production, post-production, broadcast, new media, audio and video technology.
