Discreet release 'fire 5' NLE and 'smoke 5' effects software

Discreet have released its new non-linear editing (NLE) system and visual effects software products.
Discreet's non-compressed, non-linear editing and finishing system - 'fire 5' – has been designed to give users real-time high-resolution digital cinema, high definition capabilities and extended integration with 'inferno' software. 'fire 5' also introduces new benefits such as Open Media Framework Interchange (OMFI) for transferring file formats from Avid off-line NLE systems, resolutions up to 4Kx3K with 12-bit colour depth, true 2K-24p realtime playback, matte containers, audio timewarps and a significant increase to 100 in the number of 3D DVE layers. Discreet's multi-master editing tools enable 'fire 5' users to create and deliver a job to multiple distribution formats, such as film, HD and 601.
'fire 5' takes advantage of the power of the recently released SGI Onyx 3200 visual workstation and offers cross-platform facilities with Discreet’s edit and combustion software.
'smoke 5' has been developed for broadcasters and post-production houses working in both HD and traditional standard definition formats on a single integrated system. New features include improved import support for OMFI files, new precision timeline based multi-master editing capabilities and extended integration with 'inferno', 'flame', 'flint' and 'combustion'.
The 'inferno', 'flame' and 'flint' software comprise more than 100 new features and enhancements, focusing on product design, workflow, performance and extending the range and depth of their toolsets. These packages support the latest SGI visual workstations, Octane2 and Onyx 3200, offering improved performance and creative interactivity for digital artists who create visual effects and motion graphics for film, standard and high definition content.
