APT codecs installed by Austrian broadcaster

APT codecs have been endorsed by Austria's state radio – Krone Hit R@dio – by contracting the company to install 24 APT NXL units throughout its new nationwide radio distribution chain.
It was vital for Krone Hit R@dio to build a stable and professional broadcast infrastructure using the best available technology and APT were identified as offering the best audio quality, together with an outstanding real-time performance. The latter feature was deemed of particular value for the live feed for regional programmes.
The APT NXL transceiver was also desirable as it ensured secure satellite transmission over permanent digital links, programme supply over a 2MB circuit and programme supply to local transmission locations over permanent digital links including ISDN.
APT’s commercial manager, Jon McClintock, said: “Krone Hit R@dio's purchase of the NXL384 units is part of a general trend with European broadcasters to invest in apt-X based audio codecs for studio to transmitter links. APT has had a long and successful relationship with PAS and we look forward to further business in Austria."
Stefan Szakas, technical director of Krone Hit R@dio, said: “It was of the highest importance for us to find an audio format that could also encode programme material that had been compressed using the MPEG process, but without causing further significant signal degradation. The NXL from APT satisfied us through its terrific audio quality, and its simple operation and short delay. The decision to fit our network with this equipment was not difficult."
