McMillan embark on major makeover project

Leading AV and broadcast solutions provider McMillan have launched a major reconfiguration project designed to prepare the company for a new phase of growth.
Titled Project Mercury, the initiative will see the internal reorganisation of McMillan to create five new divisions focusing on specific market segments and services. The hunt is also on for a new managing director and two new non-executive directors to join a revitalised management team.
McMillan is one of the longest-established companies in its sector, but has hitherto maintained a relatively low profile despite building up an impressive client roster. As well as internal restructuring, Project Mercury will also see McMillan undertake an aggressive branding push to create greater awareness of itself among existing and new customers.
Chairman and CEO Ian McMillan, who founded the business 20 years ago, said: "Project Mercury is our response to the significant challenges we face in the market place, by means of adapting structures and procedures to transform us into a lean, mean and competitive machine. We intend to create a highly efficient structure that that meets our clients' requirements, continually adds value, and makes us a strong leading competitor in all our focused markets."
Ian McMillan stressed that he would remain very much in the picture as the company moved forward: "My prime duty from now on is to develop the strategy for growth taking in acquisitions and strategic alliances as well as helping the company become more visible in the market place. This does not mean I am stepping back from the company in any way; I am focusing on the area where I know I can contribute most to our success.
"The MD, to be recruited from outwith the company, is designed to bring additional talent and energy into McMillan to help us achieve our goals. This appointment will also contribute significantly to the new Executive Board that will guide the strategic development of the company."
Internally, McMillan is to be restructured so that the five operating divisions:
  • Audio Visual
  • Hires
  • Television
  • Technical Service
  • Operations
with the aim that each can focus more directly on improving the service to customers.
A strategic restructuring that McMillan have developed with the help of external change management and business development consultants.
"Our plan is to build on the strong relationships we already enjoy with many customers, and make sure we are the partner of choice for existing and new clients," added Ian McMillan.
Employing around 140 people in 11 locations across the UK and Ireland, Mc Millan serves many leading names in the AV and broadcast sectors.
The company supplies cutting-edge technology to the creative marketplace, including Broadcast and Professional, Post-Production, 3D Animation and Corporate offering unprecedented support and expertise nationwide.
