ITN to take over management of C4's clips archive
ITN and Channel 4 have announced a deal for ITN Archive to take on the management of the Channel 4 archive clip-sales business.
The agreement marks ITN Archive’s first move into the wider broadcast clips business. The Channel 4 Archive contains programmes produced for Channel 4 and E4, as well as feature films made by Film Four.
Programme and film clips from the Channel 4 archive, spanning the channel’s output since its launch 20 years ago, will be available alongside the existing ITN Archive.
The new agreement cements the already strong relationship between ITN and Channel 4, built up in the 20 years since ITN started making Channel 4 News when the channel first launched.
The agreement consolidates ITN Archive’s position as one of the world’s largest commercial archives, which already brings together ITN-produced broadcast news and the entire TV portfolio of international news agency Reuters.
The deal stands to benefit independent producers of C4 programming, who receive payments from C4 for all material licensed. ITN will also provide a ‘fast track’ service for C4 independent producers who need to access C4 archive material.
ITN’s Chief Executive, Stewart Purvis said: “Channel 4 has long been an excellent customer and partner of ITN’s. We have been producing Channel 4 News for 20 years, and have made a number of documentaries for the channel. ITN is delighted to be extending that relationship by bringing this valuable collection of Channel 4 programmes and films into our Archive Sales business.”
Andrew Baxter, Channel 4 Rights Manager, said: “Archive sales are becoming an increasingly important resource for today’s programme makers. We have been impressed by the efficiency of the ITN archive sales business and we look forward to a long and beneficial relationship.”
Producers, programme-makers, broadcasters and film directors, will soon be able to search the full Channel 4 clips database online at: www.itnarchive.com
