ITN Archive opens office in LA

ITN Archive - the archive business of the UK news broadcaster ITN - has opened a new office in Los Angeles, further expanding its US business.
The new office, working out of the Reuters LA bureau will establish a dedicated representative in LA, working alongside ITN Archive's HQ in London and its New York office.
The initiative builds on ITN Archive's already strong relationship with Reuters, through the latter's 20% stake in ITN and ITN Archive's representation of the Reuters television library. The venture will also give ITN Archive and its clients greater access to the wealth of locally shot material from the LA/Hollywood bureau, with a particular emphasis on showbusiness and celebrity material.
A dedicated ITN Archive presence on the West Coast of the US means that, for the first time, televison producers and film-makers will have a local point of contact they can deal with face to face and in the same time zone. Dominic Dare, who for the past three years has worked in ITN Archive's New York office, has relocated to the new LA office. This new presence is underpinned by the fast and efficient delivery of footage from London to LA via satellite and fibre-optic technology. The move is designed to make it even easier for US clients to access ITN Archive's vast range of footage.
The ITN Archive is the world's largest commercial news archive, featuring some 250,000 hours of footage, including all ITN output since 1955, the entire Reuters television and newsreel archive dating back to 1896, which incorporates several historical newsreels, including British Paramount News, Empire News Bulletin, Universal News, Gaumont Graphic and Gaumont British.
ITN Archive also manages the clip sales business of the UK broadcaster Channel 4, with a range of innovative documentary, entertainment, drama and youth programming spanning Channel 4's 20-year history. The collection also includes material from Film Four, including 'Trainspotting', 'Life is Sweet', 'Shallow Grave', 'Naked' and 'The Croupier'.
James Jordan, who heads up ITN Archive's North American operation, welcomed the initiative: "ITN Archive's business in the US has been growing and growing since we opened the New York office in 2000. A presence in LA - the heart of the US film and TV industry - will provide a valuable resource to producers, film makers and other clients based on the West Coast".
