albert Launches New Training Course

Independent production companies that form part of – or make content for – the BAFTA albert consortium members, will be able to take part in a new training course to enable them to reduce the carbon footprint impact of their productions.

A series of one-day courses, which begin on 22 June, will deliver a number of important messages around the impact of climate change and will provide delegates with the relevant tools to take action to create more sustainable productions.

Originally designed as a collaborative project between MediaCityUK partners, BBC, ITV, Creative Skillset, Dock10 and Peel, the course is open to anyone responsible for sustainability within albert consortium companies.

The training will cover:

• Climate change – what it is, what causes it, what the impacts are, how it can be prevented, how we can adapt to it, and the latest science.
• TV production industry – how it fits into national and global context, how businesses, the government, and individuals are responding.
• Action – what can be done and the positive impact they will have at home and in the office.
• Own carbon footprint – delegates will develop an understanding of how measuring carbon works from assessing their own outputs.

Aaron Matthews, Industry Sustainability Manager at albert+, said: "Our aim is for all companies undertaking an albert+ certification to take this training opportunity before starting production. It will help them understand the challenges they are trying to address and provide them with the skills to do something about their environmental impact."
