albert Extends Sustainability Training

News Image
Bafta albert has announced it is to extend its sustainability training to the entire industry, aiming to reach more than 600 TV professionals by the end of 2016.

The one-day course, which has already trained more than 200 people, delivers messages on the impact of climate change and provides delegates with the tools to create more sustainable productions.

Among the delegates who have already participated in the course, Marc Lamb, Production Manager, Sky, said: "I thoroughly enjoyed the Carbon Literacy training course and found it informative and inspiring both as a media industry worker and consumer. There was a good balance between scientific research and practical exercises that made the experience both interesting and relevant. Not only have I found many ways in which I can drastically reduce carbon emissions on future productions, but also how I can pass on this knowledge to my colleagues and take active steps in ensuring others around me follow suit."

"It was an amazing opportunity to be totally informed about this incredibly important topic," added Milly Leigh, Head of Production, Neal Street. "Not only was it interesting and factual, but we were given very practical advice on implementing steps to make a difference to the carbon emissions of a production, and our life. I left feeling hugely inspired and would strongly encourage as many people working in production to attend."

Aaron Matthews, Industry Sustainability Manager albert, commented: "Our aim of supporting production companies and their sustainability initiatives by training has had a hugely positive response from the industry. Having a greater understanding of the issues and knowing what can be done has armed production staff with the skills and knowledge needed to further reduce our industry's carbon emissions."

Initially designed as a collaborative project between MediaCityUK partners, BBC, ITV, Creative Skillset, Dock10 and Peel, the training covers:

• Climate change. What it is, what causes it, what the impacts are, how it can be prevented, how we can adapt to it, and the latest science.
• TV production industry. How it fits into national and global context, how businesses, the government, and individuals are responding.
• Action. What can be done and the positive impact they will have at home and in the office.
• Own carbon footprint. Delegates will develop an understanding of how measuring carbon works from assessing their own outputs.
