The Daniel CONNECTION World Premiere

News Image
Last Saturday night Edinburgh's centrally located 13-screen Cineworld played host to a much anticipated chilling apocalyptic thriller, The Daniel CONNECTION.

As curious onlookers gazed at Black Tie attendees, a large crowd assembled in front of the premiere’s entrance, carefully guarded by two tactically vested federal 'police- mannequins'. After the three hundred plus guests took to their seats they were promptly treated to a film introduction by both head of production, Deborah Forrest and director Stewart Menelaws.

At the film's end, there was an eerie silence for almost one minute. You could hear a pin drop. Then came the applause as though the entire audience was synched together in thought. "Gripping, stunning, fantastic, wonderful, challenging, thought provoking... on and on came the spontaneous comments as the audience filed out of the theatre," recalled the film's director.

The film stars Caroline Goodall (Schindler's List, Disclosure, Cliffhanger), Gray O'Brien (Coronation Street, The Queen, Titanic- Blood & Steel) and introduces American actress Morgan Carberry. It imagines a dystopian world apparently predicted by biblical prophecy and is based on the TV documentary called 'The Daniel Project' – which is what gives the movie a particularly chilling edge.

After an increase in UFO sightings, a troubled detective joins forces with a feisty young radio presenter when she uncovers the disturbing truth of why people are suddenly disappearing all over the world. With the onset of a new world order, increase in terrorism and a populace in rebellion as draconian control systems are put in place, the main characters are pitted against each other in a environment of increased surveillance and financial and biological technologies that are never too far from reality.

The producers of the film, Studio Scotland Ltd, recently signed a distribution deal at the Cannes Film Festival with ‘California Pictures’, based at Paramount Studios in Hollywood for their first full length feature film, ensuring it will be well promoted among the top buyers in the industry. The 90 minute 4K feature was financed entirely by Studio Scotland and falls into the small production genre (<£5mill) but the film is not short on big production feel. Shot at a range of locations throughout Scotland with over a hundred actors and extras, The Daniel CONNECTION moves from dark imposing industrial sets and derelict buildings, through swamp riddled forests, dramatic car chases and well-designed studio sets.

"The Daniel CONNECTION for me is one of a kind in that it will affect people differently in some way at the end of the film, which is powerful... it changes the conversation. Change in life is powerful and bad or good it always moves life forward... this film will affect everyone in different ways. Not a film anyone can forget that's for sure... those are the best kind of films." Ashleigh Hubbard (sales director – California Pictures)
The Daniel CONNECTION is set for release early 2015 in the USA and worldwide.
