EuroPAWS announces grants for drama writers
The European Public Awareness of Science (EuroPAWS) have announced opportunities for writers across Europe in 2002.
EuroPAWS are offering opportunities for the development and recognition of new ideas for television drama drawing on the world of science and technology.
EuroPAWS will offer development grants of €3,000 to selected writers to take forward promising new proposals for a television single drama series or serial. Candidates should note that ideas or treatments should be suitable for an international audience.
In addition to script development grants there will be awards for the most promising scripts developed from the grants, and two of the developed ideas will have 15-minute extracts performed as dramatised presentations at the Awards evening.
There will also be two MIDAS Prizes for the best dramas based on factual science stories transmitted in Europe between 1950 and 1999.
EuroPAWS events are being planned for the Paris Science Television Festival in the Eiffel Tower, in September, for a Festival in Milan in October and for the EuroPAWS Awards evening in November in London.
The deadline for grant submissions is 14 June 2002.
Five partners including European groupings of scientists and the EURO-MEI section of UNI run the project.
