ARTS COUNCIL OF WALES AWARD LOTTERY GRANTS
THE ARTS Council of Wales (ACW) has announced that £1,311,748 of lottery grants which will go to 138 Welsh art and creative groups.
Both CF1 Cyf and Salem Films will receive grants towards developing feature films, and Oriel Myrddin has received an award to funds a two-year programme of exhibitions and residencies with local schools and community groups.
Director of ACW Lottery Division, Robert Edge, said: “Encouraging more arts activities at the community level is very much a priority for ACW. It not only makes the arts more accessible, but also encourages individuals from all ages and backgrounds to either participate or at least experience the value and relevance of the arts in Wales.”
This round of lottery grants is significant in that it marks the final year of the ACW’s involvement with the Interim Funding Scheme (IFS) for dance and drama students. This scheme enabled talented individuals to study at a performing arts college or school of their choice by awarding them with contributions towards the tuition fees incurred.
The IFS has since been replaced by a Government-funded scheme, and is now run by the Department for Education and Employment (DfEE).
Since ACW became responsible for distributing Lottery grants in March 1995, a total of 2235 arts organisations have received £88,647,405.
