Marquis To Demo Project Parking At NAB

News Image
Marquis Broadcast will demonstrate Project Parking Version 3, aimed at assisting editors and facilities to manage their Avid edit storage more effectively, for the first time at NAB 2013.
The new solution enables editors to analyse all the projects and media on their edit storage by size, project, location, age, duplicated or orphaned files and then archive files to second tier storage, or delete unused media at the touch of a button, take snapshots of versions of projects, or move from one location to another, while still maintaining a usable and easily accessible format for future use.
"The question: 'why is my edit storage always full and what can I do about it?' is one which many post production editors face," explains Chris Steele, product manager, Marquis Broadcast. "Some solutions have claimed to address this issue however, we believe that the latest version of Project Parking is the only product available which allows a complete analysis, archive and easy retrieval of all media projects, freeing up valuable edit storage space."
"Project Parking Version 3 provides a uniquely simple way of managing and archiving files on our Unity space, with the additional benefit of allowing us to provide clients with a copy of all the associated files at the end of a project," explains Nigel Gourley, managing director of Outpost, the independent post production house based at Pinewood Studios. "Marquis is the only company to offer a solution which intelligently analyses projects to enable efficient media management in this way and this means we can offer an even better service to our valued customers."
Project Parking works by analysing all projects and media across all workspaces and allows them to be viewed in a user-friendly way. This enables the user to rank projects in the most appropriate way. This may be in order of total files size, number of files associated with a project, which workspaces the media is on, and whether media is off-line. The solution also identifies the location of any duplicate files and any orphaned media not associated with a project.
The new bin archive functionality in Project Parking then allows individual bins or folders of bins to be included or excluded in order to move media to second tier storage. Retrieval is also straight forward and can be easily achieved by restoring whole projects or just the required bins of an archived project for re-editing.
"Last year, we released Project Parking as an archive and restore solution which allowed facilities to create a complete copy of any Avid project onto any storage device," explains Steele. "Now, with the integration of this important new functionality, Project Parking Version 3 offers the first complete analysis, archive and retrieval solution for edit projects, saving time and allowing the efficient management of valuable edit storage space."
