TV One Purchases Marquis' Project Parking

TV One, the Maryland-based US Cable Network, which provides programming for the African American community, has purchased Marquis' complete Avid storage management solution, Project Parking.

Launched in January 2004, TV One serves 57 million households and is home to the NAACP Image Awards and News One Now, the live daily news programming targeting the African American audience. Combining sitcoms, award-winning docu-series, original movies, reality series and newsworthy specials, the network delivers real life and entertainment programming from the African American point of view and will now use Marquis' Project Parking to manage its Avid projects.

Greg Kessler, Manager, Operations & Technical Support, TV One, explained: "We purchased Project Parking shortly after NAB 2015. Marquis is the only company around that makes a product as effective as Project Parking for archiving and restoring to and from an Avid storage environment in a way that gives you everything you need without adding unnecessary data or taking away shared assets from other projects.

"Project Parking will be installed on our LTO server, to act as the gatekeeper between our Avid ISIS network and our tape archive," continues Kessler. "Our ISIS workspaces will be mounted to the LTO server so that Project Parking will have direct access to both the LTO server storage and the ISIS storage so that it can access both file systems and transfer Avid projects and media smoothly back and forth between the two.

"Until now, we didn't have a managed archive, which meant it could be incredibly difficult to track all of the assets needed to recreate a project once it has been deleted from the storage," confirms Kessler. "As a result, we have a backlog of old projects that staff are concerned about deleting, which in turn leaves us with little available storage. Project Parking will now help us to manage our Avid storage effectively and archive entire projects with the media as needed and track that information within our archive. Restoring the project at a later date will go from being a painful process of gathering tapes and files to re-ingest, to a couple of clicks with the mouse and then waiting a few minutes as Project Parking restores the entire project and the necessary media so that we can begin editing.

"Additionally, archiving our Avid projects in a way that gives us the confidence to delete years' worth of content from our active storage, Project Parking gives us the freedom to be more open in our ingest policies rather than restricting editors and producers to only selected clips from the available footage for new content," confirms Kessler. "This allows our creative team to have more tools at their disposal in the creative process, and thus create better content."
