Mill Film move digital operation into Soho
Mill Film have announced that the digital side of the company’s operations, currently split between central London and Shepperton Studios, will be centralised into expanded premises in Soho.
From July, Shepperton will focus on physical production including special effects photography, miniatures construction and motion control. Mill Film are the only visual effects facility in the UK with a dedicated studio base.
Robin Shenfield, CEO of Mill Film, said: “Demand is growing for complex CG-led effects like character animation and these can be best accomplished within the facility in Soho. The requirements of future projects make this is an excellent moment to increase the scale of Mill Film’s digital operation under one roof and at the same time focus the studio operation around our unique physical production resources.”
More than 100 Mill Film digital artists will be now be accommodated at Mill Film's Great Marlborough Street headquarters that house the largest technical resource in London, including 20 Flame/Inferno, 27 Shake, 15 desktop licenses including Combustion, Cyborg and Commotion, over 70 CG seats, 5D Colossus, an Arri laser recorder, and a 350 CPU renderfarm. Currently Mill Film is working on 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets', 'Sin Eater', 'Bond: Die Another Day' and 'Tomb Raider II'.
Mill Film physical production at Shepperton will remain focused on motion control and miniatures as well as becoming a production base for Mill Film producers. Shepperton will be fully equipped for pre-visualisation, data transfer via BEAM.TV, Telestream and Netune, high performance video conferencing and Avid editing.
Mill Film’s 10,400sqft stage and 9,000sqft model workshop will also provide effects photography, including underwater photography, and pyrotechnic crews for both commercial and feature film.
Mill Film managing director Antony Hunt will oversee both the digital and physical parts of the company.
"Mill Film has built a reputation for quality and innovation. To maintain our competitive position we must continually evaluate the market and the demands of our clients. Merging our digital operations means that we can better position ourselves to grow to even greater success in the future,” he said.
